New AirPower? Apple may still launch another wireless charger

Even after canceling AirPower before the official launch, Apple may not have given up on having its own accessory for wireless charging devices. The Apple Insider website found that the company had filed at least two recent patents on wireless charging devices — both granted after the initial project was canceled.

The most recent was listed in February 2020 and only secured in late June of this year. The record talks about a wireless surface that can interact with devices that sit on it, which can mean interaction with the equipment used in the recharge.

“The control circuit can determine whether the receiving wireless device has moved by comparing current and voltage information … and can take appropriate action,” the patent text says. It is worth remembering, however, that registering intellectual property does not necessarily mean the commercial launch of a device.

rise and fall

Apple lived a true saga with the AirPower wireless charging accessory, which would be responsible for transferring power to several of the company’s devices at once, such as iPhones , AirPods and Apple Watch .

The accessory was originally announced in 2017 , but the launch came to be threatened for the first time in the following year. In early 2019, rumors surfaced that production of the models had begun — but the upcoming news was already talking about the difficulties of creating a device that would not overload or lose its useful life quickly.

AirPower was officially canceled in March 2019 and unpublished product photos have surfaced more recently.
