For just over a year, much of the world has been locked up at home because of the coronavirus pandemic . With so long without being able to set foot on the streets safely, entertainment is on the internet for many people. Which caused Twitch’s numbers to skyrocket. The streaming platform registered more than double the views in a year.
According to Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet , the first quarter of 2020 recorded 3.1 billion hours viewed on Twitch. The same period in this year of 2021 totaled 6.3 billion, an amount more than 106% above the previous one.

The chart presented by the services shows the main increase in hours in the second quarter of 2020, which represent the first months, with the most restricted confinement. There, the number of hours watched went to 5.1 billion. There was a small drop in the third quarter, dropping to 4.7 billion. But the data rose again, with 2020 ending with 5.4 billion hours viewed.
And part of that growth came from outside the gaming community, the main consumer of the streaming platform. The most accessed category was ‘Just Chatting’, for the second quarter in a row, representing 12% of the total content watched on the Amazon platform .
The main subject of Twitch, launched in 2011, is even games and when it comes to this, two titles stand out: ‘ Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) ‘ and ‘ League of Legends (LoL) ‘. Other game streaming platforms had different results. On YouTube Gaming, Free Fire led the views, while PUBG Mobile was top on Facebook Gaming.
These other two platforms, in fact, did not see the same growth as Twitch. The YouTube service, for example, has plummeted to 1.37 billion hours viewed and now has fewer views than before the isolation. Facebook is the one with the fewest views, with 1.06 billion, but even so it achieved a small growth and reduced the distance between the competitor.
