Google Fund for Black-led Startups Announces New Investments

Google for Startups Brazil , Google’s entrepreneurship arm , announced this Tuesday (13) another eight startups that will receive support from its Black Founders Fund , a fund dedicated to small organizations with black founders and leaders.

For the choice, in addition to the racial issue, the geographic location of the companies was taken into account, leaving the traditional Rio- São Paulo axis to also reach the Northeast region.

The sectors covered by the project include health , tourism, education, marketing, women and legal. The startups chosen for the investment are:

  1. AfroSaúde (Health)

2. Certdox (Legal)

3. Single Instance (Legal)

4. Diaspora.Black (Tourism)

5. Pregnant (Female)

6. Prol Educa (Education)

7. Inventions (Education)

8. Trakto (Marketing)

The chosen startups will also have credits on Google products and will have access to entrepreneurship mentoring.

The initiative

Google for Startups’ goal with the fund is to expand racial diversity in the startup ecosystem and support black and black entrepreneurs who are building businesses with high growth potential.

Behind the initiative is André Barrence, son of northeastern people who lived on the outskirts of São Paulo. Today, director of Google For Startups in Latin America, the businessman understands the difficulties of black entrepreneurs in seeking capitalization for their business.

“From my experience, not only at Google, but as a black person who has been working in technology for some time, the pointer that moved the least was black and black entrepreneurs”, explained the entrepreneur to Uol .

The Black Founders Fund was launched in Brazil in September 2020, with an expected duration of 18 months. The fund already has 17 companies under its tutelage and intends to reach 30 contributions in the seed stage by the end of this year.
