The initiative
Google for Startups’ goal with the fund is to expand racial diversity in the startup ecosystem and support black and black entrepreneurs who are building businesses with high growth potential.
Behind the initiative is André Barrence, son of northeastern people who lived on the outskirts of São Paulo. Today, director of Google For Startups in Latin America, the businessman understands the difficulties of black entrepreneurs in seeking capitalization for their business.
“From my experience, not only at Google, but as a black person who has been working in technology for some time, the pointer that moved the least was black and black entrepreneurs”, explained the entrepreneur to Uol .
The Black Founders Fund was launched in Brazil in September 2020, with an expected duration of 18 months. The fund already has 17 companies under its tutelage and intends to reach 30 contributions in the seed stage by the end of this year.
