LG released some more information about which of its smartphones will still receive OS updates, and even what version. According to the Italian website HDBlog, the information comes from a page on the company’s Korean website.
There are three “levels” of updating. Some smartphones will be on Android 11 , others will receive Android 12 and only two models will receive Android 13. They are:
- Android 11: LG Q51, Q61, Q70 and Q9 One.
- Android 12: LG V50s, V50, G8, Q31, Q52, Q92.
- Android 12 and Android 13: LG Wing and LG Velvet (both in 5G and LTE versions).
Previously , LG’s German subsidiary released another list, which indicates which devices will receive Android 11 and when:
- Velvet 5G (global version), “until April 2021”
- G8X in the “second quarter” of 2021
- Velvet 4G and G8S in the “third quarter” of 2021
- Wing, K42 and K52 in the “fourth quarter” of 2021
However, a footnote states: “Future updates will depend on Google’s distribution schedule, as well as other factors such as performance and device compatibility.”
It is worth mentioning that a software update available in one region (eg Germany or South Korea) may not be available to users in another (eg Brazil).

This is because models from different regions may have differences in the system responsible for communicating with telephone networks (collectively called “radio”), which would require a new certification process with local authorities. And depending on the cost of this process and the number of devices sold in a region, this effort may not make financial sense.
LG will close factory in Brazil
With its exit from the smartphone market, LG will close its only smartphone factory in Brazil, located in Taubaté, in the interior of SP. Currently, it is estimated that the unit employs around 1,400 employees. Of these, 400 work in the manufacture of smartphones and must be turned off by the middle of the year.
However, the unit in the interior of São Paulo will be just one of the affected factories. That’s because other LG suppliers such as Sun Tech, Blue Tech and 3C, which have 430 workers specializing in the manufacture of components for the South Korean company’s cell phones, are also expected to lay off their employees.
